Established in 1993, the Ernest Becker Foundation seeks to advance understanding of how the unconscious denial of mortality profoundly influences human behavior. Ernest Becker laid the foundation for this work in his Pulitzer Prize-winning book The Denial of Death.
My concept for this logo was to try and represent Becker's theory that people are, at their core, driven by the results of the efficiency with which they are able to repress their "death anxiety," even as it makes them feel backed against a wall by the inevitability of their own mortality. Becker also disapproved of cults of personality, which led to the idea to display the organization's name in lower-case.
